How It's Made

From Clay to Your Table

Every piece follows the same slow, intentional process — no shortcuts, no machines.

Hand-Throwing

Each form begins on the wheel, shaped by hand from locally-sourced stoneware clay.

Slow Drying

Pieces dry slowly over days to prevent cracking and preserve the natural form.

Glazing

Each piece is hand-dipped or brushed in food-safe, lead-free glazes mixed in-studio.

Kiln Firing

Final pieces are fired at 2300°F in our electric kiln, locking in color and durability.

Where Every Piece Tells a Story

Kiln & Clay Studio was born out of a love for slow craft in a fast world. Founded in Des Moines, Iowa, our studio has been producing functional, beautiful ceramics since 2019 — each piece made start-to-finish by hand.
